What is Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease?+
The Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease score rates text on a 0-100 scale. Higher scores mean easier to read: 90-100 is 5th grade level, 60-70 is 8th-9th grade (ideal for most web content), and 0-30 is college graduate level.
What reading level should I target?+
For web content and marketing: aim for 6th-8th grade level (Flesch-Kincaid 60-70). Most bestselling novels are written at 7th grade level. Academic and technical writing naturally scores lower, which is acceptable for specialized audiences.
