Questions fréquentes
What is a marginal tax rate?+
Your marginal rate is the percentage you pay on your last dollar of income. The US uses progressive brackets - only the income within each bracket is taxed at that bracket's rate, not your entire income.
What is the difference between marginal and effective tax rate?+
Your marginal rate is the tax on your highest dollar earned. Your effective rate is your total tax divided by total income. For example, you might have a 24% marginal rate but only a 16% effective rate because lower brackets are taxed less.
