What are the leap year rules?+
A year is a leap year if: (1) it's divisible by 4, AND (2) if it's a century year (like 1900, 2000), it must also be divisible by 400. So 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 was not.
Why do we have leap years?+
Earth takes approximately 365.2422 days to orbit the Sun. Without the extra day every 4 years, our calendar would drift by about 24 days per century, eventually putting summer months in winter.
